Newton to Appeal Ban

Terry Newton is set to appeal against the seven match ban in respect of his tackle on Sean Long. Newton is not appealing about the three match ban he received for the Lee Gilmour tackle.

Newton today said,

"I have pleaded guilty in respect of the Lee Gilmour tackle but I have also apologised for that. I am equally sorry for Sean Long who received an injury following my collision with him. He is a Great Britain team mate and I do not enjoy seeing him injured. At the same time I want to make it absolutely clear to everyone that I did not tackle Sean with any intent to cause injury. I tackle aggressively and did so on this occasion but my sole intention was to use my shoulder and sadly Sean was injured, but I stress it was not my intent. I hope Sean soon recovers but I must appeal and I want to sit before the panel and tell them what happened."
